Storage Guide : How To Make Some Free Space On Your Device!

We here at TechDekh recommend people to buy phones with inbuilt storage only; we don’t recommend people to buy phones with expandable storage. People often ask us how they should make some space on their phones; well here is the solution for it.

Step 1: Delete WhatsApp Message Database

WhatsApp automatically creates back-up of messages every day and stores it on internal memory. The size of this backup depends on the messages you have on WhatsApp. We recommend to clear chats, group chats and delete unwanted images and videos from gallery.
For deleting WhatsApp messages database:
Android Users: Go to File Manager (ANY) -> WhatsApp Folder -> Database and delete everything in that folder.
If you need WhatsApp chat backup then store it on Google Drive rather than storing it on your phone’s memory
iPhone Users:  iPhone stores database directly on iCloud so there is no need to manually delete anything from phone, well you can choose whether to take backup of your data on cloud.
This can free up a lot of space on your device.

Step 2: Disabling Applications

Every phone has lot of inbuilt applications and most of them are useless but still it occupies a lot of storage. To make up some free space:
Android Users: Go to Settings -> Apps -> All Apps -> Select application you want to disable -> Clear cache then Force Stop it, then touch on uninstall updates and disable it. (You can enable it anytime you want from the list of disabled applications for that go to Settings -> Apps -> Disabled Apps and click on the application you want to enable)
Warning: Never disable android system applications, Google play store and Google Play Services. Disable inbuilt applications at your own risk!
iPhone Users : There is no specific way to disable system applications in iPhone but you can hide it in a folder.

Step 3: Clear Cache memory

To clear cache memory from your phone,
Android Users: Go to settings -> Storage -> Cached data -> clear data
iPhone Users: Press Home Button twice to open multi-tasking view and close the applications which you are not using, it will auto clear cache data of that application.
Clearing cache data is safe and it will certainly clear some space on your device.

Step 4: Use Cloud storage

Rather than saving photos and videos on your phone, it is always safe to move them on cloud storage. You can do that by using various applications like Google Drive, iCloud, dropbox, etc. You can access the photos anytime you want even if you lost your device, which will surely help you to make a lot of space on your device.

Step 5: Uninstall Applications

Uninstalling applications will clear lot of memory but there is a way to do it :
Android Users : Settings -> Apps -> Select the app you want to uninstall for example UC Browser -> clear data first then force stop the application, after that uninstall the application.
After uninstalling it, go to file manager and search for the folder created by that application here in this case it will be UC Downloads and delete the folder. (If the folder contains any important data then move it to another folder before deleting it.)
iPhone Users: Uninstall applications from settings is recommended.
Always remember to reboot the phone after uninstalling applications or clearing cache data for smooth performance of the phone.

Step 6: Factory Data Reset

This is the most effective way to wipe out complete data from your phone. If you are tired of notification saying “Your System space is running low” then resetting your phone will help you.
Android Users: Go to Setting -> Backup & reset ->Factory Data Reset
iPhone Users: It is recommended to factory reset your iPhone from iTunes.
Always remember to back up your contacts and important data from your phone before proceeding to reset your phone.

There are lots of low space applications in Apple Appstore & Google Play Store like Facebook Lite (Facebook original application >200 MB; Facebook Lite ~650 KB) using these applications will help you clear lot of memory on your device but you need to compromise with the quality! If you love to keep lot of media on your phone or you love to play high graphic games or use heavy applications on your phone then 16 GB Internal storage phone are NOT made for you. We recommend to buy more than 32 GB internal memory phones for avoiding low system space problems.
If your phone supports external memory card then keep all your media on external memory. Media from WhatsApp and Facebook is saved on internal memory, you need to manually move it to external SD card. For moving application data to memory card install Apps2SD application from Google Play Store which will move data to SD card for you.

If you have any other suggestion about storage problems or you want to ask us any problem related to your phone then comment it down below!
